In 2006 Russell Stannard suggested that screen capture technology could be used to provide feedback to students on their written work. His idea was first published in July 2006 in the Modern Language Teacher and was later included in the Times Higher Newspaper. The idea generated widespread publicity and was included in National Student Forum 2009 submitted to the UK government. The idea has generated lots of research and in 2007 France 2 TV interviewed Russell about the idea. Russell went on to win several awards.
